FAQ
Do I need to be a registered family medicine patient to use the walk-in clinic?
No. Our clinic operates on a dual-track system. You do not need to be registered with one of our family physicians to utilize our walk-in medical services. We provide immediate, same-day care for acute, non-life-threatening health issues to all residents of Edmonton and surrounding areas.
Do I need an appointment for the walk-in clinic?
No, appointments are not required for our walk-in clinic. We welcome walk-ins Monday through Saturday.
What should I bring to my medical appointment or walk-in visit?
To ensure a seamless check-in and avoid out-of-pocket billing, please bring the following items to every visit:
- Your physical or digital Alberta Health Care (AHCIP) card.
- A valid government-issued photo ID (e.g., Driver’s License or Passport).
- A complete list or the physical bottles of your current medications, vitamins, and dosages.
- Any third-party forms or employer paperwork you need the physician to complete.
Are all medical services covered by Alberta Health Care (AHCIP)?
Most, but not all. The Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan covers all medically necessary physician visits, assessments, and diagnostic requisitions. However, non-essential, administrative, or cosmetic services are considered "uninsured services" by the provincial government and must be paid out-of-pocket.
What common services are considered "uninsured" and require a fee?
Examples of services not covered by Alberta Health Care include:
- Sick notes for work or school.
- Insurance, legal, or employer-requested medical forms.
- Driver's medical examinations (for commercial licensing).
- Cosmetic procedures or skin tag removals.
- Certain specialized travel vaccinations.
Note: We accept debit, credit, and cash for any uninsured clinic services. Our front desk staff will always inform you of any applicable fees before your service is provided.
Can I get a prescription renewal over the phone without coming to the clinic?
Generally, no. For your ongoing medical safety, our physicians require an in-person evaluation to monitor your vitals, review potential side effects, and accurately renew your medications. In rare, pre-approved exceptions involving stable chronic conditions, a faxed renewal may be coordinated with your pharmacy (subject to an uninsured administrative fee).
Do you provide on-site laboratory testing or X-rays?
We perform basic, immediate diagnostic assessments on-site (such as rapid strep tests, pregnancy tests, and urine dips). For advanced blood panels, routine lab work, and medical imaging (like X-rays or ultrasounds), our physicians will hand you an official Alberta Health Services (AHS) requisition form to be fulfilled at a nearby diagnostic facility.
